Kane County firefighter dies after medical emergency during training exercise
ROCKFORD, Ill. (Rockford News First) - The Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District mourns the death of one of their own.
Firefighter Greg Witt, 35, died as a result of a medical emergency that he experienced during a training exercise on Wednesday, Oct. 21, the department announced Sunday.

Witt served as a United States Marine before becoming a Rutland-Dundee firefighter in 2019.
“Greg was a member of our family,” said Chief Christopher Reedy in a news release. “Our hearts are with Greg’s family, and with every member of this department who served alongside him. We ask that everyone give them the time and space they need to grieve.”
Officials say funeral arrangements have not yet been made, but will be shared once the family is ready to make them public.
Rutland-Dundee Fire Department Station 52 changed its sign and put up banners to honor Witt’s life and legacy.
